Doors of Oakland...Complete!

Okay, so months after I began the Doors of Oakland project, I am finally posting the final images. As it turns out, there are now only 7 doors remaining instead of 9...sad but true. So I was able to photograph 7 different young and beautiful people using these doors as their backdrop, though the doors are unique art projects in their own right that deserve to be noticed. I will be obtaining the artists' information soon so check back for updates!

So here they are...the final 7. Cross your fingers- I'm hoping to get this published! :)

Dana Fuchs in NYC

Everyone should know by now that if I'm getting in my car and leaving this rainy, ugly city, I am most likely going to one of Dana Fuchs' concerts...this weekend was no different. Although our trip did not go quite as planned (supposed to take a bus, Megabus messed up reservation, had to drive overnight after I broke my butt on my glass coffee table, then checked into the hotel for them to say they didn't have a room for us!), we still had a blast running on 2 hours of sleep for the whole weekend.

Oh, did I mention the show was awesome? That's just implied. Dana kicked off the release of her new album, Love to Beg, at the Highline Ballroom with a stellar performance with a full horn section, backup singers (who were more than rad) and a piano player. As usual, the whole band rocked it out and although my lens is broken for the time being (thanks Canon), I managed to get a few pics. Take a gander and when you're done, go to www.danafuchs.com and buy the new album!

My New and Improved Artist Statement

I've always found it difficult to write an artist statement. Talking about myself in a serious manner seems strange and I always use the same words repeatedly. However, thanks to an artist statement generator, all I had to do was plug in a few keywords that I wanted to use to describe myself, and out came this beautiful, sophisticated and accurate statement...for your viewing pleasure :)

(P.S., this will look great when I'm trying to find a job.)

Through my work I attempt to examine the phenomenon of Princess Mononoke as a metaphorical interpretation of both Annie Leibovitz and porch-sitting.

What began as a personal journey of shitism has translated into images of donuts and forearms that resonate with Asian people to question their own blackness.

My mixed media Buddha statue embodies an idiosyncratic view of Gandhi, yet the familiar imagery allows for a connection between Elizabeth Taylor, dreadlocks and tortilla chips.

My work is in the private collection of Ted Lange who said 'Great-grandmother's spatula!, that's some real sexy art.'

I am a recipient of a grant from Folsom Prison where I served time for stealing mugs and tie clips from the gift shop of The Museum of Sex. I have exhibited in group shows at KFC and Space Gallery, though not at the same time. I currently spend my time between my bathroom and Berlin.
